2024 RACE INSTRUCTIONS

A. PARTICIPATION RULES

All participants must pay the registration fee and have an official Pre Run race number to be included in the official race results.

One race number per participant. Please do not wear or carry a race number belonging to another registrant. Anyone carrying more than one race number will be subject to disqualification.

We allow strollers in the Pre Run, but we ask that participants pushing strollers start the race in the back of the pack. Please also register only the runner.

B. START

The High School-only 5K race starts at 9:45 A.M. If wheelchair runners are entered, that competition begins at 9:50 A.M. The 10K race start time is 10:05 A.M. at the corner of 4th and Anderson.

Drink plenty of water prior to the start of the race. You will find water available at the finish area, as well as several locations on the race course. Portable toilets are available adjacent to the Coos Art Museum behind the start line, and on the curb at Life Care Center and Modern Floors for your use and convenience.

Race Numbers must be worn on the front of your shirt and need to be visible as you finish. Leave the tag on the race number. This tag contains the chip that will record your official time. The tag will be pulled and collected at the end of the finish chute.

A courtesy van will be at the start to transport personal items up to the stadium. Bags and markers will be available to mark your items with your race number. These items will be transported to the track and can be picked up in the recovery area adjacent to the water/sports drink.

Please be aware that no dogs are allowed on the race course or on Prefontaine Track. Please also NO bikes, skates, or skateboards on the course.

C. BUS PARKING

  1. Bus parking will be available off of S.7th Street in a parking lot above the track and just to the East of the main gym & Pirate Hall.
  2. PLEASE: NO BUSES IN PARKING LOT AT THE JUNIOR HIGH ADJACENT TO PREFONTAINE TRACK.

D. RACE COURSE

  1. Runners are encouraged to display proper race etiquette. Please no hand holding, throwing objects (footballs, Frisbees, etc.), or other activities which might hinder or endanger other runners. Also, no animals on the course, please.
  2. As you proceed out onto the course, please STAY TO THE RIGHT side of the road to avoid colliding with returning runners.
  3. Keep your eyes open for any runners that may be injured or need any kind of assistance. If help is needed, look for the police, race officials in orange or white Volunteer T-shirts or ham radio operators.
  4. If there are wheelchair participants, they will start 10 minutes prior to the 10K race. Please use caution on the course as the chairs will attain higher speeds than most runners on the downhill portions of the course.
  5. For walkers completing the entire 10K course, please be aware that the City of Coos Bay requires us to open the course to traffic at approximately 11:15 A.M. Participants still on the course at that time need to USE EXTREME CAUTION, move to the sidewalks where available, and beware of traffic on the course.

E. FUN WALKERS

  1. For those participating in the two-mile fun walk, the course will take you through the Marshfield High School campus. When you reach the auditorium, turn left and use the sidewalk that will take you directly in front of the main entrance to the high school. You will then walk between the West Gym and Pirate Hall, turning right at the fence toward 7th Street. The course will be well marked with signs and arrows on the pavement. Two-mile participants will complete their course through the finish line chute. Walkers please yield to 10k runners on the track and at the finish line.

F. FINISH

  1. There will be one finish chute with a chip timing system provided by Eclectic Edge Racing. If chip timing is compromised, then two chutes will be used.
  2. Look for your unofficial finish time on the large digital clock as you cross the finish line. Race results will be available immediately adjacent to the timing tent by presenting your race bib.
  3. Keep moving after crossing the finish line until well into the chute. Be prepared to have your tag pulled and deposited in the buckets at the end of the finish chute.
  4. PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE FINISH AREA MORE THAN ONCE as this causes problems with the official timing of the race and delays race results processing.
  5. Refreshments can be found on the infield after the finish: COURTESY OF BIGFOOT BEVERAGE and SOUTH COAST FAMILY DENTISTRY.

G. AWARDS CEREMONY

  1. Awards for the 5K race will be presented at 10:20 near the finish line.
  2. Awards for the overall 10K winners will be presented at 11:30 near the finish line. Division awards may take longer to process. The first three finishers in each division will receive awards.
  3. Since we will be holding our awards ceremony between 11:30 and noon, our focus will be on getting the overall winners, team trophy winners, and top three in each division correctly awarded. As discrepancies invariably are brought to our attention, we will make revisions in the official results as necessary up to 48 hours after the conclusion of the race.
  4. Results will be posted at: https://eclecticedgeracing.overallraceresults.com/ and our website: prefontainerun.net. Results of the High School 5K races will be posted on athletic.net.
  5. Appeals for violation of competition rules or improper entries must be filed by noon with the course director, Fran Worthen at the finish line area.
